One man on one island.

Vegas Trekkie Style

Comments

Today was a nice simple day – started off by finding a laundromat and fed squillions of quarters into the washing machines and dryers only to find that the devices were broken though we found ones that worked. As our clothes were drying we ate some corner store pizza that was freaking huge and bloody good tasting. The pizza here may not have much toppings (you pay per topping) but they’re big and the sauce is awesome.

Went to Frys today, man what a HUGE technology store! They have everything from wall size widescreen TV’s to the smallest USB sticks on the market. Lot’s of cool little devices like the x-arcade joysticks and even a robosapien! Stuff that you can only buy online in Australia was freely available in this store. I’m not sure how big square metre’s wise the store was, but it was at least two football fields.

Greg bought a huge two million candle powered hand light. The thing is so big that the battery pack doubles as a 12v car cigarette charger, so you can power your extra devices from it. Here’s the obligatory photo of Greg with this monster.

The light is so powerful that it feels like your skin is burning anything less then 10cm’s from the focal point. Excellent value at $35USD. Fast Ben wanted to prove how much of a man he is by seeing how long he could hold the torch in front of him.

This resulted in his temporary blindness – nothing some beer can’t fix (provided it’s non-american). Challenges are becoming almost a way of life in our ‘Coalition of the Willing’ like eating huge hamburgers. Man there are some huge hamburgers in America.

Later on the night I was assimilated into the Trekkie collective today at the Hilton Startrek Experience.

What an awesome exhibition. For $20USD you get to see a library of pretty much all trekkie memorabilia (including the pod that Spock was jettisoned in), go one two rides, and even drink some romulan ale at a replica of Quark’s bar. The first ride we went on was the Borg 4D experience, which was pretty cool – I won’t spoil too much for those that want to eventually see this ride – it’s based in the Voyager universe and the acting is pretty cool. In fact I think it’s the talent and energy that the actors show that make these rides so cool. My back still tingles from being injected with borg nanobots (and yes it’s hurts).
The second ride we went on was the older of the two, based in the TNG universe and little more ‘vegasy’. You start off about to jump straight on to a shuttle and then the lights go dark – then bam! You’re standing on a teleporter! We all looked at each other and chanted ‘cool’, you couldn’t see where the seals were – it looked like a completely different room. I’d say that the older ride was the better of the two, then again I always preferred the TNG crew.

So all in a all a pretty good day – unfortunately the clock now tells me it’s 4am and damn I wish I had some sleep.
