4th of July

Comments

Last day in Las Vegas, and it’s that big day for America – the fourth of July. I won’t spend my time writing about today, because not much happened. In a sentence, the fourth of July sucked! I expected drunk Americans, lots of dancing and cheering, fireworks and other cool stuff. What we got was no fireworks, no drunks, the best night clubs closed, and lost $50USD on the blackjack tables.
The most interesting thing that happened to me regarding the 4th of July was that I was pulled up by a couple of American’s who said my shirt wasn’t patriotic enough – they shut up quick when I said that I’m patriotic enough just not in the right country. :)
Turns out that there was only one motel shooting fireworks this year, which was the Straosphere which is on the opposite side of the freaking strip to where we were. Literally thousands of people were on the strip waiting for fireworks that never came.

In desperation I asked some Americans at a bar what fourth of July is about as the media was heating it up in the lead up to it, and they really couldn’t tell me much other then drinking and celebration. As far as I could see, it was business as usual – most unimpressed. I realise that being in Vegas might have jaded things a little, but I was at least expecting fireworks!

Later on in the night Franger met up with an American friend of his that he met over the internet in some random forum. Her name was Trish (I think) and was quite a nice girl. Trish comes from Utah – which on asking what Utah was about gave a response of Morman’s. Hmmm.

It’s great to talk to American’s in detail, it’s the best way to get involved and see a better glimpse of their culture.

I ended up going to bed early at 3am and the rest of the guys (excluding Wilko who spent the night in bed) came home about 7am or so. Bright and ready for the trip back to LA!
