Parties and rude people

with 6 comments

Last Saturday night I went to friend’s house warming party by myself to socialise and see some people I haven’t seen for a long time. I don’t mix much with my friends other friends so I knew full well I was going to a party with potentially no people I know there. I consider myself an open person and thought I’d be able to meet a few people and mix no problem.
Unfortunately it turned out there were quite a few distinctive ‘groups’ there and were quite tight knit. This proved difficult to infiltrate, however I did make a few new friends.

One thing that pissed me off was a guy I was introduced to; I don’t want to name names so let’s call him Ryan and the host of the party (also friend) Emily. I was chatting away with Emily and saw Ryan walk past and after asking Emily what’s his name I said ‘Hi Ryan! I’m John, how are you?’ which Ryan replied back to Emily and ignoring me ‘What the? There are too many people here!’…. With hand extended in the wavering air I felt a slight urge to slap the snivelling twerp in the face.

Sort of went down hill from there, not that incident affected the rest of my night but just highlighted I was in a un-winnable battle of snobs and self-centred people.

Nintendo DS Tips

with 5 comments

After playing around last night I have found out a few cool tips that every DS user should know!

Birthday Surprises
Enter a chat room in PictoChat on the date that you entered as your birthday in the system settings. The message "Happy Birthday! Today is [your name's] birthday!" will appear. Also on your birthday, when you turn on the DS you will hear a different sound.

Nintendo DS Soft Resets
At any point playing the respective games (DS or GBA) hit the button combination below to return to the Title Screen.

Code – Effect:
A+B+Start+Select – Soft Reset for Game Boy Advance games
L+R+Start+Select – Soft Reset for Nintendo DS games

Tricks when Auto Mode is enabled
With Automatic Play mode enabled, you can hold START while turning on the system to go back to the main menu. If you have both a Gameboy Advance game pak and a Nintendo DS Cartridge in your system, holding B while turning on the system will skip the Health and Safety warnings and go straight to booting up the Gameboy Advance game in your system.

It’s a DS Day!

with 3 comments

The Nintendo DS has been released in Australia today, so all those gamers who have pre-orders or just want an awesome handheld console should head on down to their nearest games store and pickup a beast!
Make sure to open your DS when you first get it and activate Pictochat to see if anyone else is in the area!

I bought my DS from Toys ‘R’ Us for a cool sum of $300AUD which included a little bag of extra goodies (car power pack, stylus, ear phones) and two games, WarioWare Touched and Mario 64 DS! I cracked open my DS and started playing, but no one as Toy R Us in Garden City at lunch time, at least no one with a DS so I headed on down to EB. It was pretty bare as well

The photos are shocking but I’ve only got my camera phone at me at the moment, anyhow I’m green and conker is blue.

After a bit of jousting it was quite clear that Conker was hiding in a place so good I had no chance of finding him. He kept telling me what I was doing and where I was, but I couldn’t find him! After five minutes of this, I had to head back to work…

Surprisingly we were able to chat a fair distance from each other, exactly how far I’m not sure since I couldn’t find Conker, but a great distance I’m sure.

First impressions the Australian DS box looks identical to the US packaging except of the Australian power supply (which in my opinion is a poor power supply). I’m not impressed with the Aus power adapter as it’s shaped in a way you couldn’t possibly have anything plugged in either side of it, yet it could have been slimline! It’s shaped like a small nokia adapter but at the wrong angle so it takes both left and right slots in a power board out!

I suppose it doesn’t matter to much for me as I’ll be charging this baby in the car and on a USB charger. Thank you Nintendo for having the same power plug as the GBA!

Can’t wait to play this multiplayer at LanSmash!

Homeless person cooks me dinner

with 11 comments

I have a homeless person living in my house whilst he’s looking for a more permanent place to stay. He’s fairly comfortable on my living room floor although he might be starting to get a sore back.

Whatever the reason he’s still in my house, he started cooking our food last night to try and hide the free-loading-hippy he is. I don’t want to name names, so let’s call him Troy Duncan and here his idea of a gourmet meal:

Mmm tasty, various pieces of chicken with luke-warm potato innards on the side with a ‘surprise’ wrapped in foil.

Oh yummy! A potato with it’s guts ripped out and replaced with shreded cheese and bacon pieces the size of gumballs! It tasted okay, but the various raw pieces of potato I was eating started to take the shine off.

Lesson learned from tonight:
A) Potato’s are best cooked and done anyway differently then what Troy did.
B) Eating whilst playing World of Warcraft is a bad idea.
C) Free-loading-hippies generally are better at fetching beers then cooking dinner.

I think tonight I’ll have to fire up my BBQ and get some good old fashion steak and spuds….
