Movie World Outing!
I had an awesome Sunday taking a trip to Movie world with around 16 mates from LanSmash and friends. At first I thought that having so many people in a group would end up in tears, however it turned out to be one of the best outings I’ve been to in a long time.

Starting at around 10am and eventually meeting up with the crew at 10:30am we all decided to race to the brand new Superman Escape! roller coaster ride.
After wacking everyones bag into one little locker next to the ride and then having to go back to the locker because I left my mobile phone in my pocket and was stopped by the entrance nazi’s (interesting policy allowing 0 things in pockets), I caught up with the rest of the group. Less then five minutes we were on the ride and went for a brisk ride through Metro city’s transportation system… and then BAM – goddam police cars were crashing down, stuff was flying around everywhere.
Then superman came, and he jumps on the back behind the train.
Me: “OMFG Superman HELP!!1!!! I dunt wanna die!’
Superman: “There’s only one way out of here. I’ve got to get you out fast. Superman fast”
*BAM* Head slammed back and Superman pushes us into the blue yonder and accelerated from 0 to 100 in 2 seconds! The acceleration is simply amazing. I could ride this ride over and over again simply for the initial raw speed; and then the ride begins. This has to be one of the smoothest roller coasters I’ve ridden on, with twists and turns and a few hooks that make it oh so much fun. Definately the best raw ride in the park and because of its location in the middle of the park you can feel the ride throughout everywhere making you even more excited of it.
Then we headed to the Batman ride where we had enough people to fill our own ‘bat plane thing’. Since we were so pumped we started doing Mexican waves waiting for our hosts to press the ‘go’ button. The guy was so impressed he grabed the other hosts and got us to do a few more mexican waves for their pleasure.
Soon as the ride began Steve hax0red the bat plane and we proceeded to assist Batman as best we can. Steve sucked at flying though and crashed the plane, but Batman wasn’t too pissed and let us get out and go buy Batman shirts.
Around midday the heavens opened up and started pouring down. The rain wasn’t so bad, but the lightning stopped most of the out door rides for fear of getting zapped. This did give us opportunity to view the indoor rides from the old but fair Loony Tunes o the surprisingly good Scooby Doo ‘spooky coaster’ ride, I never thought it would be what it is (won’t spoil the surprise for those who haven’t been!).
Here’s a photo of the group after being drenched with rain.

The camera was also fogged up from condensation which made a weird look, at least it still works!
As it turned out – the rain didn’t subside and we couldn’t get on the big rides again. It wasn’t so bad though, as we were able to run around like small children kicking pools of water at each other!
There was one ride however that we were able to ride over and over again even with the poor weather; the Wild West Log ride. Already being the wetest ride in the park, we ran that baby over and over milking as much as we could out of the west.
Thanks to Joshua for organising a great day out.
Car racing in Brisbane city
I was walking to grab an Ice Cream with the hot sun beating down on my back when I heard a car screeching and seeing flashing blue lights. Being a sticky beak I am, sprinted the four or so blocks to see what the heck was going on.
To my surprise, I saw a police officer trying to control traffic and holding back pedestrians and with a BANG the cars started to roll on.
Cursing myself that I didn’t bring my newly acquired man-bag, I could only capture the footage with my dodgy Nokia 6600.

It was three black Silvia’s following a silver Mercede’s Benz around a cornor over and over again with the Silvia’s drifting widly and dangerously close to parked vehicles. Whilst there wasn’t any bingles the Silvia’s were drifting to around a metre or two distance from civilian cars.
I was kind of surprised that there were so few police and no barricades protecting on-lookers.
Speaking of which, watching the crowds reaction to screeching cars. Some jumped up, some ran away, and some (like me) couldn’t stop watching and saying ‘cool’.
The single police officer who’s job was to stop traffic and pedestrians at the same time said it the best: Step back from the curb please, there will be cars coming around the corner… sideways.
Later on in the day I found out that the movie was some type of asian movie. I wondered if that were the case because of the Silvia’s and was glad to be proven right.

They blocked off most of post office square and had some of the main actors there. I tried asking some question but didn’t get very far with Jinglish. It wasn’t as exicting as the cars though, and as such I didn’t stick around much – unlike these guys.

ezydvd vs JB
After watching the great movie that is Mad Max 2 on Channel 9 last week I had the urge to purchase a copy of Mad Max on DVD to own a piece of Australian film history.

I thought for sure a copy of this 30 year old film would be in some bargain bin in town. After bumbling around in the City I came up with less then a desert scoundral scouraging for gasoline by digging a hole through bitumen with his bear hands (I even looked in one of those dirty hippy stores where they smoke various tabacco and listen to Black Sabbath while eating their cornflakes).
My friend Stackboy however, sat in the comfort of his bedroom and heard my plea for a Mad Max DVD and sent me a link on LS that showed ezydvd did have a copy.
Success! After looking briefly over the website my highly trained knee-jerk buying took into place and I hastily typed in my credit card information to have the DVD to be delivered to my door for a little over $36 AUD.
Certainly this is a premium price for such an old movie; but I justified it to myself that it was a ‘rare’ movie and one I couldn’t find easily.
To my dismay, today I walked into a real ezydvd store and there was Mad Max DTS DVD sitting there shining away at me; but to the tune of $14.95 AUD! Of course I realised that somewhere out there in the vast nonthingness of space and time that there would be another cheaper Mad Max DVD for purchase; I just didn’t bargin for that it would be the same (albiet online vs offline) store!
Asking the store attendent behind the counter if this DVD was on special or not, she answered with ‘Nope – that DVD has always been that price as I recall’! Those cunning ezydvd deviates have been at it again!
I’m going to attempt to try and redeem some of my dignity by writing nasty letters to the online store and demand for some type of compensation for such blatent price differences. I wouldn’t matter so much if it were $5 difference, but over double the price is too much of a low blow!
Max would be pissed.
