Nintendo Wiiiiiiiiii

without comments

my… god…. I thought Dreamcast was a bad name (being renamed from Katana) but this has to take the cake.

The Revolution will be called Wii.
http://gizmodo.com/gadgets/portable-media/nintendo-revolution-renamed-wii-170058.php

Pronounced ‘Wee’ it’s meant to mean ‘we’ to signify multiple people playing with each other… i guess this would be ok in japan but in western worlds they ‘mose well call it gay.

here’s a flash animation in honour of wii - http://www.albinoblacksheep.com/flash/weeee.php

And THIS is a repeat of what happened when I saw it this morning: http://revolutionname.ytmnd.com/

you goddam japanese butt-munchers, just because wee doesn’t mean a damn thing in japanese doesn’t mean it isn’t piss poor for us! I guess that the japs are still pissed about WWII and want to get back at us by dropping a W instead of a bomb.

….

I mean, who can’t wait to play Super Mario Wii, Metroid Wii… FRAK FRAK FRAK!

This can’t be! http://revolution.nintendo.com works and http://wii.nintendo.com/ doesn’t…. agghhghg

Pendulum rocked the Arena

without comments

Pendulum has been a favourite band of mine since their album ‘Hold your Colour’. I was cursing when they didn’t have any decent places in the Triple J Hottest 100 2005; then again I didn’t vote so I guess that’s fair.

Whilst I didn’t lose my shirt like the last time I was at the Arena I did rock out somewhat! In short it was a fantasmagorical night with lots of funky beats.
The peak of the night for me was when the remix of Voodoo People started building up and hit me in full effect.

There was even some Rage Against the machine mixed in there as well as some Kanye and other awesome tracks. The visual effects were rocking as well with some weird short clips and trippy scenes.

Friday night definately proved (to me at least) that Brisbane is a fraken drum and bass town!

Here’s a short clip of the entrance of Pendulum recorded on my N70.

It’s surprisingly good quality… now I just need to fully recover!

MAMP - easy Apache2/Mysql/PHP for Mac OS X

without comments

I spent a little time this morning setting up my Mac Mini with the standard development junk (TextMate, iTerm, etc) and started working on adding webserving gear. Apache of course comes default with Mac OS X and PHP was easy enough to setup with DarwinPorts.

MySQL however proved a little challenge; it installed fine with DarwinPorts but wasn’t playing nicely. Feeling lazy I googled a little and found MAMP; the all in one package with Apache2/MySQL/PHP and a schwag of other junk.
mamp!

It’s not designed for true Mac OS X server’s in mind of course; you’d be silly using it for anything other then development.

So far so good and it’s playing quite nicely.

Oh and for Ruby on Rails I use the aptly named Locomotive!

Broken up - Gmail agrees

without comments

I’ve broken up with Lauren after 6 years of being with each other. I won’t go into details, in short I simply fell out of love with her.

Gmail seems to try to help me though; with various e-mail’s that she’s sent me the automatic advertisement system let’s me know of all types of things. For instance…

  • Read Bad Breakup Stories - www.breakupbook.com/ - Turns out she was in the bathroom hooking up with my best friend.
  • Terrible Breakup Stories - www.breakupbook.com/ - He tied me to the bed and hooked up with my friend in the kitchen.
  • A Positive Attitude is - ThinkTQ.com - Everything. Become more positive & powerful with this Free new system.
  • You Are Pathetic - stopabreakup.com - So am I. But I got my ex back and so can you. Let me show you how.
  • Fix Your Relationship - www-Fix-Your-Relationship.com - Even If Your Partner Is Unwilling. Learn How In 20 Minutes Guaranteed

Thanks Google! I’ll take that under consideration!

Wilko’s and Nils’ swanky party

without comments

Sophisticated and LanSmash crew don’t typically mix together; add a nice Penthouse in the Brisbane city to celebrate two great guys’ birthday’s though and it’s time to break out the champaign!
Thanks to Wilko and Nils for hosting a fantastic little get together last Saturday night and happy birthday!

For sure everyone had a great time and the conversations were free following and friendly. It was great to see everyone dressed up and having a great time, I think we all looked just smashing!

The Boys!

High lights of the night included Kent microwaving alfoil covered Garlic bread and then admitting he had ‘no fraking idea’ that metal in microwaves was a bad idea… Cara running around picking up girls and flexing her muscles screaming ‘I’m the Juggernaut Bitch!’.  Franger attempting to drink over 20 shots in an hour… and of course Nils accompanying his drinking style and paying for it the next day (note to all: drinking everything that Franger gives you could be harmful to your health!)
Steve nearly toppling over the glass table with his “BAM BAM” style dancing.
All in all I was impressed with the level of converstation through out the night and everyone having a general great time with no ugly moments to mention.
Dancing on the Hugh Hefner stylised shag carpet was a trip in itself; here’s a shot of Sarah and I later in the night attempting to air guitar.
Sarah and Blade rocking on

Props to Troy who lugged his stereo system over and giving us some pumping beats. A nice widescreen plasma TV allowed us to view photo’s of previous party’s with my newly acquired Mac Mini curtoesy of front row. I managed to tape some of the night with my video camera so when I grab a moment or two I’ll have to see if there is anything useful in there.

I’ve uploaded some photo’s which you can view and comment in the LS photo gallery.

Edit: Here’s a highly compressed version of the short movie I made of the night!
